Finding out what is
actually happening.

A private investigation instruction requires a firm that understands both the legal framework within which it must operate and the human context of the situation it has been asked to examine. The two are not separable.

Fortis approaches every investigation with the same discipline applied to its security consultancy work: structured methodology, professional rigour, and the operational experience to execute without creating exposure for the client or compromising the integrity of the findings.

The operational capability is delivered through a specialist team with backgrounds in UK policing, UK special forces, intelligence, and surveillance. All work is conducted in accordance with UK law, including the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Human Rights Act 1998 provisions on privacy.

On legal and ethical standards

All investigation work carried out on behalf of Fortis clients is conducted lawfully and within the applicable UK legislative framework. Evidence gathered is handled to a standard appropriate for use in legal proceedings. We do not accept instructions that would require unlawful conduct, and we will advise clients accordingly if a request falls outside what is permissible.

Clients who require
reliable answers.

The clients who come to us for investigation work share one characteristic: they need accurate information, and they need it handled with care. The circumstances vary considerably, but the standard of discretion and the professional requirement do not.

We work with private individuals, legal professionals, corporate risk and compliance teams, family offices, and others who have a legitimate need to understand a situation more clearly than current information allows.

We do not accept instructions without satisfying ourselves that the instruction has a lawful purpose. Clients are not required to justify their interest in general terms, but we will decline instructions where the intended use of our work appears to fall outside what is legally permissible.

  • Solicitors and barristers

Legal professionals instructing us in support of civil, family, or commercial proceedings. Work product delivered to evidential standard with chain of custody documentation where required.

  • Corporate risk and compliance

In-house legal and risk teams requiring external investigation capability for matters involving employee conduct, fraud, or third-party due diligence.

  • Private individuals

Private clients requiring discreet, professional investigation with findings they can rely upon and, where relevant, use in legal or personal decision-making.

  • Family offices and wealth managers

Those responsible for protecting the interests of HNW families who require background verification, due diligence, or investigation work connected to personal or commercial matters.
